It's not made by Garry so you don't have to worry about it breaking all your shit. No worries about the shitty physics locking your pose so that you cannot click the part that you need to modify. Ability to make videos. Much easier to pose with. No need to worry about all the little bones in a model screwing up if you switch to a different tool(gmod's joint tool does not like the finger poser).

Gmod: +Easy to handle +Maaaaaaaaaany Resources +very intuitive controls (works like a game) -garry likes to crash his own game. Like make it unplayable or addons no longer working or massive bugs... -sometimes the engine fucks up posing and/or poses (save a lot) -no movies/animation or at least not very easy in making -no SSAO (without gimp/PS pics can look very "scourcy" (The Engine)) -the more resources you use the longer the loading-time gets. SFM +easy to make movies and animation +SSAO (looks fancy) +no crappy physics that fuck up your posing +easy to learn -very hard to master -not very intuitive to control -not as many (working) resources as in Gmod (yet) I use both. Gmod for pics because i have a shitload of models and props for gmod and i am used to the controls. But for making even short animations SFM is god!

I prefer SFM over Gmod no question. It has a steep learning curve but I love the program. It's been great for me starting to learn animation.

Same for SFM.

The same could be said of Gmod.

Most Gmod models, textures and particles and maps work just as well in SFM as they do in Gmod. SFM pretty much has access to the entire Gmod library plus the SFM specific resources.

Maybe it's because i used gmod for a long time, but I think it veeeery easy to use. With some tools like the ragdoll mover and stand-tool it's so smooth and nice. because it has the very accurate movement of SFM and the ragdoll physics of gmod

Maps: If the have HDR Ragdolls: Well okay...for posing yes. Models: Q-Menu in Gmod is much better than the modelspawn-menu in SFM imho. Like I said: Both Tools are awesome. But I think for me Gmod is better for posing.

Yup, I'm in the same boat as Tim. Use both because they each have something to offer. I had hoped that most of my Gmod assets would work fine in SFM but half the freaking models need to be recompiled or worse just to function on a basic level. The ones that do are a treat to work with, if only there were more than a handful of usable maps to go with it. I have no doubt SFM will be exponentially better once there are more assets to work with.

The loading times increase exponentially with the amount of resources loaded. Maybe in Gmod this is more noticable because a lot of resources are mounted before a map is loaded, but that's not what I was referring to.

Pretty much all the post-Orange Box maps have HDR. The ones that don't can easily be recompiled with HDR.

In SFM there is no real difference between models or ragdolls, so why the distinction? The spawn menu in SFM is better imho as it's simply a directory listing with a preview and a search field. Lean and simplistic. GMod's spawnlist on the other hand has limited previews and is part of the reason why GMod is so slow. Lots of indexing, caching and preview rendering.
