Hi everyone! I hope there are some mapmakers or anyone familiar with that in this community. I want to start making maps for garrys mod and probably sfm but I need some help. What programs are best to use? I was thinking of working with Source SDK's Hammer tool but ran into a problem that you can have content from all source games at once(However i could unpack all gcf's and put them in my Gmod folder but i dont have too much space for those things and its pretty lame to do so.) So i want to ask you if there are any ways to put all content together for Hammer or any other tool/programm people usually use for Gmod maps? Google didnt really give me any answers. Also maybe there are some tricks with Hammer which could make working with content from multiple games easier? Any help is much appreciated! <3

You pretty much always need Hammer to make maps for Garry's Mod or Source Filmmaker. I would recommend the Source SDK Base 2013 version. However, you don't need to have content for all the different Source games loaded at the same time. Only the games with the models and textures you need will have to be loaded. I believe it will load whatever games are defined in the game configuration (gameinfo.txt) you load in to Hammer. Also, get a bigger hard drive.

You know those maps which use EP2 and CSS content at the same time? Im not sure if i will try to load one of those in Hammer i wont get any errors. Also when i will be making a map which will probably use CSS and maybe some other games i will need to have those games loaded at the same time. Also how do you use the 2013 SDK? Because when i start them its some source test and it doesnt appear in the original SDK tool. Will it be okay if i first make a map with CSS mounted then load it in EP2 profile and add EP2 content while having CSS content "Missing"?

Again. That depends on the gameinfo.txt.

The Source SDK 2013 doesn't have an SDK launcher. You need to go to the SDK 2013 folder to run Hammer. You can find it under steamapps\common\Source SDK Base 2013 Singleplayer\bin

You could do that, but you don't have to. Just create or edit the gameinfo.txt file to include both games.
