Well, hi this is my first post here :) Well i'll go strait to the point, can someone give me a detailed tutorial for making face flexes on 3d max, i've ported quite some models but they never had face, finger or even eye posing, so they kinda lifeless, all the tutorials that i've seen recently where kinda confused, the best that i've got was mariokart's tut, so can someone make one? explaining better the qc part? Well thanks :)

I will not be writing up a detailed explanation on how to build face flexes, I will however point you to this video by Haxxer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c3K9Cz4aJ5k which explains how to build the face flexes themselves in 3DSmax. As for the qc file, decompile a model that has face flexes and study the part from "flexfile" down. You need to export all the face flexes from 3DSmax to a .vta file (find a smd import/export plugin for 3DSmax for that) and the lines under "flexfile" describe which animation frame does what and how source should interpret it. Use the source wiki as reference if you don't understand something (or post your questions here I guess). The eye-posing though, I could write up a detailed description on how to do that (I couldn't find a good guide on how to do it when I was figuring it out and it has some confusing stuff, so this might be useful for other people starting out as well).

I'm not entirely sure about finger posing (I use SFM instead of Gmod, which doesn't use a finger posing tool), but from what I understand it's incredibly easy. All you need to do is give the fingers and hands proper names (that way the fingerposing tool identifies them correctly and let's you pose them). The names are: For the hands
ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Hand and ValveBiped.Bip01_L_Hand
and for the fingers
ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger0, ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger01 and ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger02
These are just the bones for the right handed thumb. ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger1, ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger11, ValveBiped.Bip01_R_Finger12 are the bones for the index finger and so on.

I know this is an old topic, sorry if this is an annoyance but- I'm trying to get in to model making, so far I know how to rig to bones and a little bit about face flexing, here's the problem- I don't know how to do finger flexes to where it works with the finger posing tool! I've named the finger bones just as they were suppose to be named, I skinned them and I connected them to the hand bone which I also named accordingly to the valve human bone. Am I suppose to do flexes (IE- the VTA file) or am I missing something really important?

No. For Finger posing the names are all that matter. If they don't work, then you named them wrong.

You should totally make that tutorial.

Yeah, I checked to make sure the name of the bones were correct, valvebiped.bip01_r_finger0, 01 and 02 for the thumb, 1 to 12 for the index, and so on.
