The Walking Dead Fanfic Idea/Info Thread

Yeah. I have an idea. Imagine if all of us were in the world of The Walking Dead. Just as the army of pornographers we are. I'm writing a fanfic that anyone can add entries to or write sections of. This is the thread for ideas and whatnot. The discussion thread, if you will. So what I was thinking is, what if we started off as a group or something. Think about it and throw your ideas around. I'll be throwing in mine.

I'm not very familiar with the Walking Dead, what makes the zombies in that stand out?

Nothing. Very classic zombies, which is why I like the series and loved the game. That running bullshit in 28 Days Later and movies alike are not zombies. They are bloody athletes.

The thing to remember about The Walking Dead is there are a lot of metaphors. Probably the most important thing to note is the zombies or "walkers" as they are called are not antagonists at all. They are obstacles that the survivors are forced to overcome. The real threats come from the world they now live in as a whole, both the environment and the people they encounter. The real metaphor is that the survivors are the true walking dead because in a world as fragged and bleak as theirs it is only a matter of time before they join the hordes of undead. BTW, huge HUGE fan of The Walking Dead :D Can't wait for the hardcover edition of book 9 to come out :D

I'm a fan too. I can't wait for Season 2 for the game to come out. Anyways, I was thinking, what would be a good location for us to start off in? I mean we're all from different countries, and I was trying to see if we could connect this into anything from the show/comic/game stories. Maybe somewhere in the southern US? That is kinda where it started...

Just say a wizard with a huge dick put us all in the same room  On a more serious note, the story could start off with us catching a ride on our various models' planes. Our models are real people, and we each take turns taking pictures of them, and they gotta get from DE member to DE member. Given the zombie outbreak, one of us hitches a ride and meets up with another user.

I suggest a location which could be isolated very easily if the world were to collapse. Could create some interesting scenarios for survivors who are cut off and have to figure out a lot more compared to those from the series. I am partial to Canada  specifically the northern parts of my country can be quite inhospitable and would definitely test ones will to survive. Or there are places like Russia as well, very rural country and can be quite cold. Also interesting things happen in the cold, [spoiler:k8qvelmw]walkers basically freeze and become completely immobile in winter climates. Survivors would have 1 less obstacle at the beginning of the story.[/spoiler:k8qvelmw]

It's planned for this to be an interactive comic where each member of DE participates, right?

Yes. I almost wanted to write the title as "The Walking DEad," but that seems really dumb... :|

That could work pretty well, considering Left 4 Dead 2 starts off in Savannah, GA.

Well now THAT makes me think... I don't know shit about Canada, to be honest, so it'd be hard for me to set the scene there. But maybe we could be somewhere REALLY close, like New York. Maybe it'd start off in the Spring and work it's way to winter? That's sounds good, eh? Anyways, now that the location's relatively taken care of, let's get started on characters... Give me a bit to think of mine, but by all means, if you have characters, go ahead and share them.

I've traveled a bit across the US, California, Washington, Nevada, New York, beautiful country btw, especially New Mexico. When it comes to comparisons to Canada and the US the differences are not where you would think them to be. For example, major cities tend to be exactly alike no matter where I go. Seattle has almost the identical feel to Toronto. When I was living in Vancouver I saw almost no difference culturally between British Colombia and Washington however when I moved back east I notice a big difference. A lot of things that were common place 2 years ago on the west coast were just coming out on the east or not even available. Weird or what? :P New York state would be a good place to start because there are a lot of towns that are close enough to the border where you could have creative freedom without having to worry about getting something culturally incorrect. You could cross back and forth between American and Canada without worry. 1 place comes to mind, Watertown, NY. Pretty close to the Ontario border, it has an international airport and it appears there is a military base just to the west, Fort Drum (just found that out on google maps). I've actually been to Watertown for black friday (you would not believe how many Canadians LOVE black friday!) This town stuck out in my mind because with the exception of the military base the surrounding area is rural, forest or lakes for miles in all directions.Check it out here on google maps Hope this helps with the creative process :)

Well, in the series /game all started (at least on Rick 's/Lee's point of view) all started on small towns. A place small and far away of any style of contact. Something that was really good implemented on the TV show was the sudden appear of zombies around the farm. Beside of that, they were able to live in there for a while, with the supplies from near markets, pharmacies, all that stuff. About the characters and groups, most of them started by the survivors of a certain area who managed to escape from there. Would like to write more but in cellphone is really annoying, let's see how does this goes :)

Should be safe down here, we'll just muster an army of venomous snakes and other creatures, while riding into war on our noble kangaroo steeds while raising our cans to the heavens, hooting random Aussie gibberish.

(In exaggeratd Aussie accent) CRIKEY! That sounds like the best idea ever, mate! But seriously, I think New York might be a nice place to start. It seems that most of us have agreed on it anyway. But now on to the characters.
