Ok, so on my Tumblr some people showed interest if I did a tutorial on the basic use of SFM. I only have the download links up now, but if anyone is interested: http://kp0988.tumblr.com/post/79397881550/sfm-basics-tutorial It's kind of basic, mostly just me talking over my process of making a simple pose. I'm not sure what it'll do for people, but I hope it's sort of helpful, if not, I'll get rid of it. *I'm planning on uploading somewhere, it's just that Naughty Machinima is being weird tonight.

http://kp0988.tumblr.com/post/79674624841/sfm-basics-tutorial There we go, I add the updated page with the Naughty Machinima links, and a new download link for the Uncut video. Plus, all the links directly: http://www.naughtymachinima.com/video/9097/kp-sfm-tutorial-basics-01-intro http://www.naughtymachinima.com/video/9098/kp-sfm-tutorial-basics-02-camera-controls http://www.naughtymachinima.com/video/9099/kp-sfm-tutorial-basics-03-posing http://www.naughtymachinima.com/video/9100/kp-sfm-tutorial-basics-04-lighting http://www.naughtymachinima.com/video/9101/kp-sfm-tutorial-basics-05-exporting Uncut Video Download Link Animated GIF Tutorial. I end up rambling thru-out a lot of the video, as I couldn't go step-by-step as the posing tutorial. I'll have up the download links, and a version without my narration once everything converts and uploads. Hope everyone enjoys it. :)

Great tutorials, it'll really help people that are starting off :D 11/10 Are you ever going to do one on animation?

Yep. Working on the animation one is a bit harder, but it'll be done soon.

Can't wait for the animation tuto I worked all day on sfm today to get an animation, but its useless... I watched your tutorial and all the steam tuts, but it's doesn't work the way it is shown in their tutorial (everythng in yours worked just fine). Simply posing is no problem, but some kind of keyframing doesn't work at all (could there be a problem with german keyboard?)

Well, the animation one is coming, I just have a lot on my SFM plate at the moment. Also, thanks, I'm happy it was somewhat easy to follow. :) I wouldn't think that a German keyboard would cause any sort of large issue, but weird things happen with Valve, and the things they make. I'd check around and see if other people have the same issue you are.

Thanks for this tutorial! It could be helpful for learning different methods of animating with SFM and such. I've been flipping and flopping between the motion and graph editor along with different workflows, and I think I like the graph editor more. I just need to find a good workflow now.

First, you're welcome. :) Second, that's what I try to encourage in the tutorial, use whichever suits you, and feels the easiest. Third, A good workflow will come about with practice. Believe me, my first gif took a few hours to make, and it was total garbage. :P

KP’s XNA/XPS to SFM Tutorial Okay, I went and finished up with this one today. =) It’s meant to, hopefully, help people get XNALara models working in SFM, so it’s kind of bare-bones, and is meant as a starting point. \ Your models won't be perfect, but if it’s something you're interested in, I encourage you to continue. Here is a Google Doc featuring some notes I didn't/couldn't really go over in the video. Here’s the zip of the few files I mention as well. There is a notepad file with the same information as the Google Doc too. As a sidebar, the texture recolors/adjustments tutorial will be coming out later this week, and the download for this video will be posted soon. I hope it’s of some help to everyone, and I do ramble a bit, as I'm not quite as confident in my porting skills yet. =( WebM & Direct Download. Right-click and Save As for either, if you want them for offline purposes. :)

Great tutorial, kp0988. Very helpful and easy to follow. One thing has me puzzled though. Is there a way to add mini-bumps to the model? [spoiler:fhu3mfnu][/spoiler:fhu3mfnu] I tried adding it through Detail Texture in VMTEditor, but the blending modes aren't very smooth. [spoiler:fhu3mfnu][/spoiler:fhu3mfnu] Before [spoiler:fhu3mfnu][/spoiler:fhu3mfnu] After [spoiler:fhu3mfnu][/spoiler:fhu3mfnu] Do you know of a more precise way of adding them? Are they even possible to add? Any help would be appreciated.

The only way I know of is to use the Detail texture like you are. I'd suggest trying a diffuse/regular image for the Detail, instead of a bump map. I say that, because I think that SFM can figure out how to calculate a new bump map based off the combined use of the Diffuse, and the Detail textures. And, if you use a detail map the same color as the diffuse, that should help the blending as well. That's what I know from my research and experimenting, so I hope that it helps. :) If it's not any better after trying that, I'd make a Support thread for it, and see what some of more experienced texture people say.
