How do you all feel about smoking?

Sat, 11 May 2013 04:06:48

Got some new neighbors that moved in downstairs and they smoke 24/7, and whatever they smoke (I can identify at least cigarettes and marijuana), often makes its way into my apartment. Apartment rules say tenants are not allowed to smoke anything indoors. Problem is, I like to have my windows open, but can never get any fresh air anymore because of my neighbors. But there is nothing I can do about it, and I'm gonna have to deal with it. So, how do you all feel about smoking? Do you guys think it's rude to smoke when it makes others around you uncomfortable? Do you all think there comes a time when too much smoking becomes overkill? Personally, I prefer not to smoke anything. To be honest, I can't stand the smell of most common "smokeables," if you will. I get called a pussy for it, but when it makes you feel sick, what else can I do? I don't care what other people smoke, but when it affects me I don't want it around me. What do you all think?

Inhaling ashes is kind of bad for your health, so I prefer not to. I don't generally like the smell of smoke itself. When it comes to marijuana, I actually like the smell, and you can use it in ways that are not damaging to your health like in a vaporizer or in baked goods.

It's rude in general to not take others into consideration, so that goes for smoking as well. If you're a guest in someone's house it's always more polite to ask if it's ok to smoke. Some of my friends smoke cigarettes; they only smoke outside or in designated smoking areas. I usually don't mind hanging around with smokers, as most of them seem nice enough to take me and other non-smokers into consideration.

Well, yes. Smoking is harmful to your health, so when you smoke too much, your body will probably stop working. If you occasionally smoke a cigarette, it's not going to have that much of an impact. If you smoke a packet a day, the chances of lung cancer and other diseases increase significantly. Too much smoking is literally killing yourself, but so is too much alcohol. Moderation is important, and a lot of people forget that.

Very simple: Smoking is bad!

Red Menace

I hate the habbit, and when their smoke usually comes to me, I hate them too. Funny thing, I hate smoking because my dad gave me a smoke when I was 4, so after that I have only negative feelings, and memory about it. Also, for some reason, I like the smell of smoke that comes from burning stuff, so pleasant.

Stealth Clobber

I like the smell of cigarette smoke (to a degree) when walking through someones cloud, as they are smoking. However, I don't like the smell of smoke left over on people, in their cars, etc. I was talking to my best friend the other night and the smell of smoke left on her just overwhelmed me. When I was in college, I would smell it all the time as these Asian students would smoke outside the commons building. It was there that I tried my first cigarette, and it wasn't bad, but I was smoking with a friend, and I only smoked a little before I gave the rest to him. The feel of the hot smoke going down my throat as I inhaled was a weird feeling at first. Then I bought a pack of "luxury cigarettes" from a smoke shop in St. Cloud, and smoked one that night by myself, sitting on a bench outside my dorm. I got dizzy from the thing after a while and realized that it was stupid, because I knew long term it was gonna kill me (I never planned to continue smoking anyway), and smoking it by myself was just the catalyst for the realization that it's worthless lol. Even that same girl from before agreed with me a long time ago that smoking is better when you're smoking with other people. Don't get me started on weed smoking, either. And AbsoluteZero, on your neighbors, I would confront them about it. I would not want that smoke to keep on getting to you, because you could develop some really serious health problems because of their smoking.

Deus ex Nihilo

I smoked for almost 3 to 4 years, but quit 2 years ago since i became more aware ofall the negative effects and they just couldn´t hold up with satisfying the habit or addiction (luckily mine was only psychological) It just doesn´t make sense for me anymore to buy a consuming product that can give you cancer in several areas, restricts your blood circulation and cause erectional disfunction. Trying to explain why you don´t quit smoking, based on logical, non psachical reasons comes close to trying to explain why you cut your wrist, in my opinion; there´s just nothing positive about it. I also quit because i´ve seen lots of older people who started smoking my age and haven´t quit since. They usually have wrinkly, dry skin, yellow teeth and the gums receded from the teeth, making you avoid every possible situation they could break a smile and show them. They also had a monstrous mouth odor, keping you at a safe distance while talking to them.

Yeah smoking is bad, cigarette is the devil, smoking is... Evil... and... oh... yeah i smoke

Smoking is only good if you're the person smoking it, not health-wise of course. But it's pretty rude to walk around smelling like shit and blowing smoke into people's faces, allergic reactions. You could just run into them while they're in a smoking circle. lol.

Smoking is Bad. (Well...Cigarrets and stuff. Like having a habit of smoking. A little pot here and there is not that bad. You should not smoke. But if you choose's your health not mine. Just don't blow the smoke in my face/the air i breath.

A smoke is good after a better meal. But I never smoke inside. Always outdoors.

Interesting I wouldn't have guessed so many people didn't care for it. Perhaps its cause I live in the Pacific Northwest- a smoker's paradise. :????:

I don't smoke, and I don't plan to either. I hate the smell, and I honestly don't know how people say they "enjoy" smoking. I know people that are below my country's legal age limit that smoke, and it sickens me.

I'm personally against smoking, but only if it's cigarettes. The main issue with it is that the major brands are filled with a terrible filler, that's also super addictive. Though I'm fine with pipe smokers, since it's not so bad for you and the smoke can smell really good. Other smokeables don't really bother me that much either, though I probably wouldn't care to be around people when they smoke them.

Smoking does relieve stress, but people typically start smoking just to be cool. It's when they get older and actually get stressed that they create a dependency. I wouldn't dream of paying money to have bad breath, yellow teeth, and die a slow and horrible death by any of the half-dozen diseases you can get from it simply to relieve stress. Know how I get rid of stress? Smoke a big bowl of the sweet Mary Jane with some classical/symphonic music playing. You can also mellow out by taking a walk or playing your favorite game, but ppl will always take the easy route because they're lazy and stupid. What pisses me off is the "fake" stress-smoker who smokes cigs like a badge of honor pretending they NEED this stuff because their life is like, the hardestest. Talk to me about your stress-filled life the moment you don't know where your next meal is coming from.

Always sat next to my mom when I was a kid while she was smoking, didn't like it. But... of course I was too stupid and lazy to go somewhere else.

My standpoint on smoking is pretty straight forward really. If you enjoy smoking your way to an early grave, go at it. I feel very little remorse for those who do smoke and come down with lung cancer or something of the likes, pure stupidity. But hey, that's my two cents.
Tue, 14 May 2013 23:33:36

Snip3r, the problem with that is the problem with addiction, everyone makes stupid choices every now and then, and often times they feel its a "only one time" thing. My feeling here is that I haven't thought about it enough to really give my two cents.

Growing up, both of my parents and my older brother smoked. At about the age of 16-17, my sister picked up smoking. I'm 20, and the only person in my immediate family that has never smoked (my dad quit about 7 years ago) and I hate the smell of the stuff. The worst part is that my sister and mother still smoke. When they do, they smoke indoors, and are almost aggressive in defending this habit, too. My sister refuses to keep her door shut when she smokes, because it "gets hot" in her room (having the window open when it's 32C out doesn't help..) and my mother doesn't believe that she should have to keep her door closed. I honestly don't care if either of them smoke, I just don't want to smell it

My dad quit smoking a few years ago, thanks to help from his girlfriend. They said that it always helps to have someone going through it with you.

I smoke very rarely at parties and stuff. Cigars are much nicer. I do NOT like having my clothes reek of it though when I'm hungover. Makes it fucking worse. Actually what I do like is the smell of my goth friend's perfume that she sometimes leaves on my clothes when she... rubs up with me ;) I smoke weed very rarely too. I have a nice weed story; my brother and I played Portal 2 high as fuck and we couldn't stop laughing over the absurdity of trying to explain our puzzle solutions to each other. It was hilarious. While both habits suck, the people who are worse than smokers are the propaganda sheep who eat up what the anti-camps say like it's Justin Bieber's cum. "ONE CIGARETTE WILL MAKE YOU ADDICTED AND TAKE 70 YEARS OFF YOUR LIFE!" "WEED WILL KILL YOU INSTANTLY YOU'LL NEED TO GO TO HOSPITAL IF YOU SMOKE THAT JOINT!" These people need to get laid.

I smoke hookah every so often. I've never actually smoked though other than that, at least not more than once. I've always been worried it would somehow trigger my Asthma again, and I've had it under control for years. You wouldn't know I still have it (I do, I can still lose my breath a little faster than the normal person) Never touched a cigarette and never will, they smell disgusting. Ironically I love the smell of cigars (never smoked though), they remind me of Christmas. When I was a kid and visited family around Christmas, most of my older cousins and uncles smoked cigars. Good times. Other than that I've been told I've tried to smoke pot during a night in the city on new years eve with some friends. I got so shitfaced I don't remember most of the night, but apparently someone offered me some, I tried to smoke it the wrong way, then eventually dropped it. That would make sense cause it felt like I had a burn in my throat when I woke up the next morning, lol.
