To rig, or not to rig...

I'm at a bit of a crossroads here regarding posing in SFM. Using rigs is INCREDIBLY useful, and I love using it to position stuff. But I keep finding that alot of the models I use are missing those rigs. And alot of the time, the rigs dont have bendable elbows, making arm posing a huge pain. On the other hand, not using rigs lets me pose some parts easier at the expense of making other things hard as hell. Any idea of what I should do? This whole thing is stopping me from making anything.

Always rig. With a little bit of effort you can make your own IK rigs. The only times when I don't use rigs is when I want to quickly test a new model I haven't started creating a rig for.

Thanks for responding. How would I go about making the rigs? Because I followed Turbotom's tutorial, but I still don't understand how to make a successful rig. And my previous attempts to edit the simple biped rig ended up not going well at all. I have less than no experience with coding and the like, so I'm pretty lost.

Some scripting knowledge is useful, but most of the time you're only going to be entering the correct bone names in existing lines of code. You're not really doing any scripting or programming. Turbotom's tutorial is pretty straightforward, and I recommend trying again until you get it right. It does not go into the errors in the console when you made mistakes in your rig, so that's something that might need some work. You can always post the problems you're running into, so others can help you out.

Gotcha. Guess I'll get working on those rigs ASAP, then. Thanks a ton for the help, man.

I have also released various IK scripts that work with most all models that have been released here and have been designed to work in the SFM.

Really? Do you have a link to them, and do they work with the Mortal Kombat models?

Mortal Kombat models need either an imprecise rig revision or a recompile, because the models use a bad bone hierarchy. A MK rig would require the "wrist" twist bone to be treated as the hand, without recompiling the models. This isn't very ideal, so I haven't made an IK rig for them at all (that and I don't like the models, and I just make rigs for models I use).

Alright, I guess I'll rig the other models and do the MK models without rigs. Do you have a link to the rigs that you've released so far? Or are they just packaged in that megarelease?
